A Few More Days

There's a few more days of school left for Mike and Matt and we are all feeling rather jaded. It's becoming increasingly difficult to extract anything meaningful from those dark places that are called children's minds. There were a couple of comments during school this morning that had me smiling though:

Mike (looking at the metre ruler marked as 100 centimeters): I am taller than 100 kilometres!

I wonder if the rarified air up there is causing some of the tiredness?

Matt (watching me take the sheets from his bed): But you just changed them *last* week!

His brain has obviously not observed the fact that sheets are changed every week. He needs a holiday.

A Driving Test

Today Lloyd had a driving test. I was really hoping that he would pass. After all, those lessons get pretty expensive after a while and the test itself isn't that cheap. I always understood that most boys don't pass first time around because the testing officers don't like 17-year-old boys driving around unsupervised. So I wasn't expecting him to pass. He came back about 10 minutes ago and.....

HE PASSED!!!!!!

Wow, that's so cool. No more expensive driving lessons. No more finding time to supervise hours of learner driving for Lloyd (just have Anika now to get 35 more hours).

But wait..... this means that he can legally drive a car. Solo. Unsupervised. Out there in the mad, mad world of driving. Without me. No one to say, "Just watch out for that truck," "You need the inside lane before the roundabout," and, very importantly, "Just ease off the speed a little here."

Am I mad? Did I really want him to pass?

Quick! Somebody! Change the law! *Now* To this....

"A person may not drive unsupervised until they are at least 30 years of age (or until their mother is over it)."
